Hard Way — Full Set via Boss

The fastest way to get the full set is by defeating the boss in Hoenmark Ruins. You need to reach Chapter 6 or 7 in the story. The boss, Beloth the Darksworn, is one of the toughest in the game with high damage, aggressive attacks, and a lot of health. Even if you haven’t completed the short questline, the boss may already be waiting in the arena.

After defeating him, you get a quest to collect his helmet from nearby ruins, which gives you the entire Plate of the Shadows Set. The helmet has a unique ability to breathe frost, freezing enemies, and can even create ice on water that allows you to walk for a few seconds. This makes the set not only visually impressive but also functional.

Plate Gloves of the Shadows

You can get the gloves without fighting the boss. They are located in the icy Everrost Cave, hidden in the mountains. The cave is slippery, so be careful and turn on your lantern to see the chest. The gloves come with two upgrade slots and are useful for both leveling and endgame play. They look great and provide solid combat benefits.

Plate Boots of the Shadows

The next piece is Plate Boots of the Shadows, located north of the cave near a waterfall. To reach the chest, use the R1 + Triangle (stab) move to break through the water. Inside, you’ll find the boots and a bonus skill XP item. These boots are valuable for both combat and leveling, and they complement the rest of the set nicely.

Plate Armor of the Shadows

The main armor is near the Everrost Watchtower. In a locked room, light the lantern to lower the bars and access the chest. This armor can be upgraded like the other pieces and provides high defense while looking great with the gloves and boots.

Cloak of the Shadows

To get the cloak, go to the ruins near Hoenmark Ruins. Near the frozen river, you’ll see a glowing floor section. Using Force Palm (R3), open a passage down to the chest with the cloak. The cloak doesn’t have a built-in helmet, but it complements the set and can be upgraded as well.

Helmet of the Shadows (via Boss)

The helmet, which allows frost-breath and walking on water, is only available by defeating Beloth the Darksworn. Currently, there is no alternative way to obtain this helmet, making it a unique and highly sought-after item to complete the full set.

Vow of the Dead King — Set Weapon

The special weapon Vow of the Dead King is found in Frostfall Castle Ruins. You’ll need to navigate traps like spikes, falling ceilings, fire traps, and enemies including rock worms. Moving along walls is often the safest route. Inside, you’ll find a chest containing this two-handed weapon, which has unique moves, bonus damage against different enemy types, and upgrade potential. It looks great and works perfectly with the set.

Alternative Helmet — Dark Marksman Plate Cloth

If you can’t defeat the boss, you can get the Dark Marksman Plate Cloth. It’s located in Warrior’s Soul Cave. To enter, use the stab (R1 + Triangle) move to pass through the waterfall. The chest contains a cloak with a built-in hood that replaces your normal helmet. It looks stylish and completes the “dark knight” appearance, though it functions differently from the original helmet.

Customization and Appearance

All parts of the set, including the alternative cloak, can be customized at the Dye Vendor in Hernand. You can change the color and material of each piece. For a stylish look, set the plate pieces to white with a metallic finish and the cloth parts to black. This creates a sleek silver-and-black aesthetic that looks great in combat.
