Item changes in patch 7.33: more new items, fewer old items

"New Horizons" was perhaps the most extensive update for Dota 2 in the history of the MOBA discipline from Valve. With 7.33 the developers brought many changes to the in-game map, character and item balance, mechanics, matchmaking, and more. For more details you can read our review of patch 7.33.

Below you can find out what items have changed in Dota 2 since the "New Horizons" update.

Neutral item changes

POSSESSED MASK

• Item abolished

FADED BROACH

• Returned to the game

LANCE OF PURSUIT

• Hound: Deceleration duration increased from 1 to 2 seconds

OCCULT BRACELET

• Bonus to all attributes increased from 3 to 4
• Now gives +10% to magic resistance

SEEDS OF SERENITY

• Health Bonus increased from 100 to 150
• Verdurous Dale: Health bonus increased from 8 to 10

TRUSTY SHOVEL

• Dig: The player now controls the kobold he dug up.

SPARK OF COURAGE

• New Neutral 1 item.
• Passive: Courage. Gives +10 to damage when wielder has more than 50% health, and +5 to armor when wielder has less than 50% health.

DUELIST GLOVES.

• New Neutral 1drop item.
• Gives +10 to damage.
• Passive: Boldness. Gives +15 attack speed if there are enemy heroes within 900 radius.

BRIGAND'S BLADE

• Item Abolished

DAGGER OF RISTUL

• Item is retired.

NETHER SHAWL

• Item is abolished

PUPIL'S GIFT

• Universal heroes only receive half of the bonus, but to all attributes.

PHILOSOPHER'S STONE

• Gold per Minute reduced from 80 to 75

ORB OF DESTRUCTION

• This item is now back in play. Its Grade has been changed from 3 to 2.
• Impeding Corruption: Armor reduction reduced from 4 to 3
• Impeding Corruption: Movement slowdown in close melee/field combat reduced from 25%/15% to 20%/10%.

SPECIALIST'S ARRAY

• Crackshot: Reload decreased from 12 to 8 seconds

VAMPIRE FANGS

• Item returned to game
• Vampirism on creeps now reduced by 50%

GOSSAMER CAPE

• New Neutral 2 item
• Gives +20 movement speed
• Passive: Sixth Sense. Wielder automatically dodges enemy heroes. Reload: 5 seconds.

BLAST RIG

• Item is retired.

ROBE

• Mana bonus increased from 250 to 350

ENCHANTED QUIVER

• Gives +50 mana bonus to ranged attack (ranged combat only)

DANDELION AMULET

• New Neutral 3 pack item
• +300 to mana, +25 to movement speed
• Passive: Magical Damage Block. Blocks up to 300 magical damage. Does not deal damage less than 75. Reload time: 12 seconds.

DEFIANT SHELL.

• New Neutral 3 item.
• Gives +7 to all attributes and +5 to armor.
• Passive: Reciprocity. When under attack, retaliates by attacking a target in range. Reload time: 5 seconds.

VINDICATOR'S AXE

• New Neutral 3rd rate item.
• Gives +25 attack speed.
• Passive: Vengeance. Gives +30 to damage if stunned, +12 to armor if stunned.

FLICKER

• Item was retired.

WITCHBANE

• Item is now abolished.

HAVOC HAMMER

• Damage Bonus increased from 12 to 14
• Power Bonus increased from 12 to 14

MIND BREAKER

• Item rating changed from 3 to 4
• Magical attack damage increased from 25 to 45
• Attack Speed Bonus increased from 25 to 30
• Silence Strike: Silence duration increased from 1.75 seconds to 2 seconds

STORMCRAFTER

• Now gives +25 to movement speed
• No longer has an active spell, but a passive spell that strikes up to 2 creatures at once with lightning

MARTYR'S PLATE

• New Neutral 4 item
• +20% to magic resistance
• Active: Martyrdom. Redirects 20% of all damage dealt to allied heroes within 900 radius to the wearer. Lasts 8 seconds. Reload time: 40 seconds.

APEX

• Gives all allied heroes +25 on all attributes.

FALLEN SKY

• Fallen Sky: Stun duration reduced from 2 to 1.6 seconds

New items available for shop purchase

BLOOD GRENADE

• New consumable item. Cost: 65 gold.
• +50 health bonus.
• Usage: Throw Grenade. Throws a 300 radius grenade into the specified area, which explodes and deals 50 damage to enemies. Enemies also receive 15 damage per second for 5 seconds after the explosion, and will move 15% slower. Blast Distance: 900. Reload time: 10 seconds. Health consumption: 75.
• Multiple casts will not add up.
• Max Shelf Life: 3 (replenished every 120 seconds)

DIADEM

• New item. Cost: 1000 gold.
• +6 to all attributes

CORNUCOPIA

• New item in the secret shop. Cost: 1200 gold.
• +5 to health gain.
• +2 to mana boost
• +7 to damage

PAVISE.

Assembled from Void Stone (700 gold), Ring of Protection (175 gold), Fluffy Hat (250 gold) and recipe (275 gold). Total cost: 1400 gold.

• +3 to Armour
• +2.5 to mana boost
• +175 to health
• Active: Protect. When applied to an ally, gives that ally a barrier that absorbs 300 physical damage. Lasts 8 seconds. Reload time: 18 seconds. Mana consumption: 75.

DISPERSER.

Assembled from Diffusal Blade (2500 gold), Demon Edge (2200 gold), and Recipe (800 gold). Total cost: 5700 gold.

• +20 to agility
• +10 to Intelligence
• +45 to damage
• Passive: Manabreak. Each attack burns 40 mana on the enemy unit, causing 1 physical damage per mana burned.
• Active: Suppress. If used on an enemy unit, slows it for 4 seconds. If used on an ally, applies normal dispersal to that ally and speeds up their movement by 100%. This ally cannot be slowed for 4 seconds. Reload: 15 seconds. Mana consumption: 75.
• Both the slow and the acceleration from the active ability are gradually reduced to zero for the duration

HARPOON.

Assembled from Echo Sabre (2500 gold), Diadem (1000 gold) and Recipe (1000 gold). Total cost: 4500 gold.

• +20 to Strength
• +16 to Intelligence
• +10 to dexterity
• +15 to attack speed
• +15 to damage
• +2 to mana boost
• Active: Draw Forth. Fires a harpoon at the chosen enemy, pulling the wielder and target toward each other up to 35% of their original distance. If wielder fights at close range, draws him and the target to attack distance. When drawn, the target dies instantly. Range: 700. Reload: 19 seconds.
• Passive: Echo Strike. Allows melee heroes to perform a double attack that reduces their movement speed by 100% for 1 second.

PHYLACTERY.

Assembled from Diadem (1000 gold), Point Booster (1200 gold), and Recipe (200 gold). Total cost: 2400 gold.

• +7 to all attributes
• +200 to health
• +200 to mana
• Passive: Empower Spell. The following ability, directed at an enemy unit separately, deals an additional 125 damage and slows them down by 50%. Duration: 1.2 seconds. Reload: 6 seconds.
• Passive effect is not triggered by spells that don't use Magic Stick (such as applying Hand of Midas) nor does it stack with other sources of that effect.
• Passive effect is applied when the spell is cast on a target

Changes to other in-game items

ENCHANTED MANGO

• Shop now limited (starts with 4 and moves up to 10, items must be replenished every 120 seconds)

CLARITY

• The shop is now limited (4 items at the start of the game, up to 10, items to be replenished every 120 seconds)

HEALING SALVE

• Shop now limited (start of game 4, max 10, will be replenished every 120 seconds)

TANGO

• Supermarket now limited (start of game 8, max 10, will be replenished every 120 seconds)

TOME OF KNOWLEDGE

• Item removed from game

DUST OF APPEARANCE

• Changed Reveal's ability. It now creates a 1050 radius around its point of use for 12 seconds, which reveals invisible heroes and slows them down by 20%. Deals 25 damage to invisible units revealed by this item's application. The effect lasts for 8 seconds after enemies leave the area of effect.

SENTRY WARD.

• Max. commissary supply reduced from 10 to 8
• Store replenishment time increased from 70 to 80 seconds

SMOKE OF DECEIT

• Heroes that receive the effects of this item can no longer use it for 2 seconds.

HOOD OF DEFIANCE

• Item removed from game

BLINK DAGGER

• The item no longer just goes into cooldown, but shuts down for 3 seconds after its owner takes damage from Roshan or an enemy hero.

BLACK KING BAR

• Changed Avatar's ability: Affects the wielder with normal debuffs. Gives him immunity to effects, +50% resistance to magic, and full protection from pure and reflected damage. Does not affect abilities that pass through immunity to effects.
• If immunity ends before the negative effect, it affects the victim the rest of the time.

WRAITH PACT

• Item removed from the game.

Conclusion

The developers from Valve removed a lot of familiar items, added new ones, and reworked some iconic items, such as the Black King Bar. This update will have a significant impact both on the in-game meta and on the eShop scene in general. After all, whoever manages to adapt to such drastic changes faster will be able to achieve success in the short term.
