Javascript Brings New Innovations in Browser Gaming
Bogdan LashchenkoJavascript is one of several computer programming languages used in the development of video games. Others include Python and C++. Each one has plenty of advantages that gamers benefit from, along with some disadvantages. In this article, we’ll focus on Javascript and look at what innovations it has in store for browser-based games.
What Is Javascript For?
Like other programming languages, Javascript has several purposes: it’s used for developing websites, creating games and building online applications. As well as this, Javascript is used for adding interactivity to websites and making surfing the web a much more engaging and user-friendly experience. Features such as contact forms, drop-down menus, links to external sites and animations are all possible because of Javascript.
Javascript and Video Games
Javascript isn’t among the most popular programming languages used for video games. Others such as Python, C, C++ and C# are preferred by game developers, especially those that make premium, AAA titles.
When it comes to browser games, Javascript is actually quite a common option. This is because for browser-based gaming, there’s no need to install any software; everything’s downloaded from the internet. Games you play in this way tend to have fewer features and graphics of a lower quality. However, they’re still very much worth playing.
What New Innovations Is Javascript Bringing to Browser Gaming?
Video games are developed using engines and a lot of these, such as Three.js, Pixi.js, Phaser and others, use Javascript. In recent years, these engines have been becoming more advanced. They can produce games of a much greater quality than before. Nowadays, games built with Javascript aren’t quite as powerful or capable as top-of-the-range console games, but they’re still fairly advanced.
The problem is that browser-based games can’t take advantage of the full capabilities of your computer or laptop. This has limited how advanced browser games can be. Thankfully, Javascript has had a number of updates and these have enabled it to do more and to create games for internet browsers that are better and more advanced than before. Many Javascript games released over the last few years incorporate 3D graphics, for example.

Javascript is relatively simple for coders to learn. It’s lightweight and open source, and it supports cross-platform play (both desktop and mobile).
What About Casino Games?
We’ve talked about regular video games, but in this section we’ll look at casino games. Some online casinos let you download software (including games) but most of them today are browser-based. A lot of them run on Javascript.
Casino games are by their very nature quick to play and not too complicated. They’re nowhere near as detailed, complex or demanding as console games. Because Javascript is becoming more advanced, so too are casino games. Lots of recently released ones have high-quality 3D graphics, realistic sound effects and more interactivity; options to purchase free spins and interactive bonus rounds, for example.
One of the biggest recent trends in gaming is social casinos. These are free sites hosted on social media platforms where you can play casino games without having to spend any
actual money. Instead, you earn coins or tokens that don’t have any monetary value. You use these to play the games and can win more of them if you’re lucky. Javascript has powered and continues to power a lot of these games.
Summary
The main innovation Javascript is bringing to browser-based games is improved quality. These games will never be as technologically advanced as console games, but they’re steadily becoming better and more capable thanks to updates to Javascript. Browser-based gaming may not be the most popular type of gaming, but it shouldn’t be overlooked.
