Meet Aurora – New League of Legends Champion: All Abilities, Cost, Release Date, and Roles in Game

Riot Games has introduced a new champion for League of Legends: Aurora, the Witch Between Worlds. Aurora was born into the Vastal tribe of Brynja, living in the Freljordian village of Aamu. From early childhood, she had a connection with a parallel dimension that envelops Runeterra. Over time, her innate witch abilities strengthened, and eventually, Aurora learned to control them.
In this article, we share everything known about Aurora, the Witch Between Worlds, and the 168th champion of League of Legends. What abilities does Aurora have, when will she be released in LoL, how much will it cost to unlock Aurora, and what is her role in the game?
Aurora in LoL – Release Date
Aurora, the Witch Between Worlds, will become the 168th playable champion in LoL and the second champion released in 2024, taking the title of the newest champion from Smolder. Aurora’s release is scheduled for July 17, 2024 alongside patch 14.14.
On July 17, 2024, the Hall of Legends Battle Pass, dedicated to Faker Skins, will conclude. Along with this, a new PvE event Swarm is also set to start in LoL on the same date, although the final date could always change.
Aurora is expected to appear on the PBE (Public Beta Environment) on July 3, two weeks before the official release.
All Aurora Abilities explanation
Aurora is the third consecutive mage champion. Like Smolder and Hwei, she relies on spells in battle, with mana as her primary resource. In battle, she will be aided by spirits with whom Aurora has a deep connection.
Aurora abilities list
Ability | Hotkey | Description |
Spirit Abjuration | Passive | Aurora's spells and attacks expel spirits from the enemies she harms. These exorcised spirits trail Aurora, providing her with healing and increased movement speed. |
Twofold Hex | Q (+Q for recast) | Aurora launches a missile that curses any enemies it strikes. She can recast this ability to pull the active curses back towards her, damaging any enemies in their path. |
Across the Veil | W | Aurora leaps in a chosen direction, entering the spirit realm upon landing and becoming invisible for a brief period. |
The Weirding | E | Aurora opens a window to the spirit realm, releasing a blast of spirit magic that damages and slows enemies, then leaps backward to safety. |
Between Worlds | R | Aurora leaps in a chosen direction, releasing a shockwave that damages and slows any enemies it hits. She then creates an area that traps enemies and allows her to teleport from one side of the area to the other. |
We will see Aurora’s ability numbers when she hits the PBE on July 3, but we can already draw some conclusions about the effectiveness of her abilities.
Aurora Abilities Explanation
As mentioned earlier, Aurora relies entirely on her abilities. The description of the 168th champion’s abilities confirms this, and we can see that she is quite a mobile champion.
Passive Ability: Spirit Abjuration

Aurora’s passive, Spirit Abjuration, allows her to trade favorably with enemies through a series of attacks, as the Witch Between Worlds gains healing and additional speed. The number of attacks needed to enter spirit form, gain healing, and additional speed is three.
Q Ability: Twofold Hex

Aurora’s primary combat tool and skill priority is Twofold Hex. She can consistently harass enemies with, marking them so that subsequent uses of the ability deal additional damage. Twofold Hex is also excellent for clearing waves of minions, as it works in an area of effect.
W Ability: Across the Veil

Aurora’s second active ability, Across the Veil, is an escape and survival tool. It allows Aurora to disengage from unfavorable fights, aiding her in one-on-one encounters.
E Ability: The Weirding

The last active ability, The Weirding, grants the Witch Between Worlds some control by slowing enemies. It is also suitable for clearing clusters of minions and pushing lanes.
Ultimate Ability: Between Worlds

Aurora’s ultimate, Between Worlds, enhances her dueling capability and becomes a significant asset in team fights. With her ultimate, Aurora becomes highly mobile and can quickly reposition, making it easier to stack her passive Spirit Abjuration on multiple targets and stay in fights longer due to the passive's effects.
Given Aurora's arsenal of abilities, we can speculate on the role that best suits the Freljordian witch.
Aurora Role in LoL
It doesn't take a fortune teller or a connection with spirits to understand that Aurora is a solo lane character. This has been confirmed by the developers and is evident from her abilities.
Aurora should feel comfortable in one-on-one fights since her innate ability, Spirit Abjuration, allows her to heal. Thanks to her nuke, she can use her passive more effectively, and upon reaching level 6, she can fully engage in fights.
It’s possible that players might find her useful in the jungle or on the bottom lane, but she would likely be less effective in these roles due to her need for solo experience and the importance of reaching her ultimate quickly.
In summary, Aurora is a champion for the mid or top lane.
Aurora Cost in Blue Essence and RP
Like all champions in the game, Aurora will be available for purchase upon her debut in League of Legends. The initial price for the Witch Between Worlds is 7,800 Blue Essence or 975 RP.
That’s everything we know about Aurora, the next, 168th champion of LoL, set to release on July 17. While you wait for her arrival, we invite you to check out other LoL news on our blog.
