ESL Pro League tournaments will be held according to the Swiss system
Tournament operator ESL has shared a new format for ESL Pro League events with CS2.
Starting from Season 21, the system will be similar to the one used at IEM Katowice Major 2019.
Now EPL tournaments will have two group stages according to the Swiss system. Initially, 16 teams will play the first stage, after which the top eight will advance to the second, where 8 more teams will be waiting for them.
After that, eight playoff participants will be determined.
Each team will evaluate the other 15 opposing teams and rank them according to their level of play, based on which each team will receive its own rating, which will resemble the ELO system and affect the seeding.
However, when evaluating teams, “anomalous” votes will not be taken into account, which is when one team rated another team as top 15 while everyone else called it top 1.
