Deadlock Invitational Announced: First Tournament for Valve's New Game with $10K Prize Pool
The newly established platform, Deadlock Prime, in partnership with the esports organization afterMath Esports, has announced the first-ever tournament for Deadlock.
For those unfamiliar, Deadlock is a new game from Valve that blends competitive third-person shooter mechanics with MOBA elements.
Since spring 2024, the game has been in closed alpha testing and was kept under tight wraps, though word eventually leaked to the player community. On August 23, Valve officially confirmed the existence of Deadlock and opened its Steam page.
In its early days, the player count for this new title from the creators of Counter-Strike and Dota 2 ranged from 100,000 to 150,000. Even now, while still in its alpha phase, the game maintains around 120,000 active players.
The Deadlock Invitational will take place on October 4-5, though team rosters are yet to be announced. The tournament boasts a prize pool of $10,000.
