The features of DPC 2023
The sixth professional Dota 2 season has similar features to the previous DPC events. The leagues of the DPC ecosystem include 96 teams, which are divided into two divisions (the upper and lower ones) into 6 regions: Western and Eastern Europe, North and South America, China, and Southeast Asia.
The main difference between DPC 2023 and the previous season is the duration of regional leagues and the match schedule. Now, matches in regional leagues will be carried out in 3 weeks, instead of 6 last year, and the second-division matches will not overlap with the matches taking place in the upper league.
Just like in the DPC 2022 tour, the 2023 season will have 3 final Major events. Teams will be distributed at tournaments depending on the success of regional representatives. The regional distribution at the first Major tournament in 2023, The Lima Major 2023, looked as follows:
- 4 teams from Западной Европы Western Europe
- 4 teams from China
- 3 teams from Eastern Europe
- 3 teams from Southeast Asia
- 2 teams from North America
- 2 teams from South America
The detailed distribution of teams for the Majors in Germany and Indonesia will emerge closer to the start of the events.
The rules of DPC 2023
The 2023 season had a few changes regarding the rules of the competitive DPC league. Mainly, it impacted the point about punishing clubs for using stand-ins, and also clarified the points about ownership of slots.
About the owner of a slot in DPC 2023
The owner of a slot is a person who is registered as a team administrator. Usually, it is a team manager or a representative of an organization in professional organizations and it can also be a team captain, any other player, or a neutral third-party person in the rest of the cases.
The registered administrator is considered to be the only owner of a team and can exclude any team members. If a team wants to have a few administrators or limit the admin rights, its members will be able to sign contracts with each other, which will be considered in the case of disbanding.
About the penalties for using the unfixed players
For each exclusion of a player, the team loses 20% of its earned qualifying points. The sum of points for each tournament is rounded down to the nearest integer. There is no penalty for adding a player.
A manager can exclude a player from the team but a player can also leave it, while the roster is not fixed. In any of these cases, the team will lose 20% of its qualifying points, both earned previously and in the current league.
Other DPC rules have not changed since the previous season. It can be found in the rulebook by Valve.
