New Agent Vyse Makes Debut at VCT 2024 CHINA Ascension, Struggles to Impress
The new agent Vyse, introduced in patch 9.04, made his official debut at the VCT 2024 CHINA Ascension tournament. XLG Esports, led by former SCARZ player Kr1stal, were the first team to use Vyse in an official match, choosing him on the map Ascent as a substitute for the more commonly picked KAY/O. The strategy appeared to aim at preventing retakes after spike plants, similar to tactics involving Deadlock.
However, Vyse's performance fell short against a team running no sentinels and two duelists, Yoru and Neon. XLG Esports struggled on attack, often failing to break through their opponent’s defenses and successfully plant the spike in most rounds. In round 9, they managed to plant the spike in a 4v5 situation, and Vyse’s ultimate, Steel Garden, was used to prevent a retake. Despite this, ZYG was still able to execute the retake, leading to a 3-13 loss for XLG Esports.
Vyse, who was introduced in Episode 9 Act 2, has yet to gain significant popularity. According to the BLITZ platform, his pick rate hovers around 3.5-4.0%, with a win rate of approximately 48%. His effectiveness in professional play is still uncertain, and potential buffs may be needed to increase his viability in competitive matches.
